J. Stephen Poor Recognized As An Innovative Trailblazer In Workplace Flexibility
Chairman of Seyfarth Shaw is the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance’s 2016 Flex Leader Honoree
WASHINGTON, DC: February 23, 2016 – The Diversity & Flexibility Alliance announced today that J. Stephen Poor, Chairman of Seyfarth Shaw LLP, will be its 2016 Flex Leader Award Honoree. The award, which will be presented at the Alliance’s Annual Conference on March 16, 2016, is given to a General Counsel or law firm Chair who promotes a more diverse and inclusive workplace through holistic flexibility.
Mr. Poor is being recognized for his demonstrated leadership, dedication and tireless efforts to ensuring that flexibility policies at Seyfarth Shaw are a part of the firm’s culture. “Steve truly understands the importance of incorporating flexible work policies into the culture of his firm as a valuable business component as well as a key talent retention tool,” said Manar Morales, President and CEO of the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance. “Steve is a trailblazer in the field and demonstrates true leadership from the top to ensure that all of his offices understand and embrace the importance of diversity and flexibility,” she added.
“I am honored to be receiving this award on behalf of our team as flexibility is truly woven into the fabric of our firm and our client service model, SeyfarthLean,” said J. Stephen Poor. “Our journey down this path has been a transformative effort that began with our culture of inclusion and innovation. At Seyfarth, we’ve always maintained a strong culture of accountability and continuous improvement for ourselves and on behalf of our clients.”
“From this cultural basis, we worked hard to build transparency around the policies, infrastructure and new mindsets necessary to adopt new flexible work structures that meet the needs of — and create competitive advantage for — our lawyers and clients,” Mr. Poor explained. “We are perhaps most proud of the fact that we have partnered with clients who have supported and joined on this journey. No matter where our journey ultimately takes us, our lawyers and clients understand our vision for flexibility and that helps fuel a very powerful and diverse platform,” he added.
Mr. Poor is a partner in the Chicago office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP, where he represents management in the area of labor and employment law. Mr. Poor has been Chairman of the Firm since 2001 and is responsible for the leadership, direction, growth, profitability, and culture of the organization.
The Diversity & Flexibility Alliance’s 2016 Annual Conference, entitled Diversity + Flexibility = Talent Success, will be held on March 16, 2016, at the Washington, DC office of Jones Day. The Conference features the most up-to-date action steps for diversity and flexibility, a report on the current state of flexibility programs, and success strategies for improving retention of top legal talent.
